COCHRAN, Ga. — The Cochran Motor Speedway is up for sale, according to a post on the race track's Facebook page on Saturday.
On the opening day of a holiday weekend racing event, owner Chris Martin announced he was selling the track.
"It has been a blessing and a curse owning this track," Martin said. "There have been some great moments and then there have been some times where I wondered why I opened the gates. It is not a business for the faint of heart."
He says he hopes someone with a passion for dirt track racing will " infuse some new spirit into the operation."
"The track needs someone who can dedicate more time to operating, promoting, maintaining and developing the business," Martin said. "The right person could really make this place go."
The speedway encompasses nearly sixty acres including the 3/8ths mile dirt track and the recently opened 1/5th mile go-kart track.
Four concession stands will come complete and ready to operate with fryers, refrigerators, freezers, grills, warmers and stainless steel tables.
All of the equipment used to prepare the tracks and operate a race night are also included:
- John Deere 4440 Tractor 120HP
- 710 champion motor grader
- 420 d cat backhoe
- 3000 gallon KW water truck
- 5350 John Deere tractor
- 3 light towers
- 2016 Honda four-wheeler
- 1 EZGO golf cart
- All tractor and track implements
The post says there hasn't been a decision on how the sale will affect the remainder of this season's schedule of events.
"We may have to see how this weekend goes," Martin said.
