'You could never miss him in the room': Close friend remembers 14-year-old shot, killed in Macon

A friend says Tre'mon Jarrell will be remembered for his big smile, positive energy, and family-focused nature.

MACON, Ga. — The Bibb County Sheriff's Office arrested 17-year-old Tylik Mantrez Green in connection to the death of 14-year-old Tre'mon Jarrell.

He faces charges of murder after allegedly shooting Jarrell Saturday evening at the intersection of Heron Street and Wren Avenue off of Eisenhower Parkway.

What led up to the shooting is still unknown.

A close family friend says that night, he was headed to their house.

"He was like a little brother to me. He was full of life. You could never miss him in the room," Naidyia Moore said.

Moore said Jarrell had a larger-than-life smile she will miss dearly.

"I can't forget that Kool-Aid smile. He'd be like, 'I don't have a Kool-aid smile', and I'd be like 'yes you do, go ahead and show your 32'. He always made everyone laugh. He was the jokester," she said.

However, Moore says he never made it inside his home. This came as a surprise because she says the street typically has a police presence.

"On this street, it's been quiet, nobody really comes out here," Moore said.

She says the police presence is one reason Jarrell would come over.

"Everybody be in their own lane, in their own center, in their own world. That's why he came over here because of that," she said.

Moore says Saturday, while she was waiting for Jarrell, she heard gunshots. Then, she saw a crowd gathering outside and when her family saw him lying barely responsive, she called the police.

"They really did come in the midst of five minutes," Moore said.

While they waited, she said all she could do was hold on tight to him.

"I was telling him, 'I'm not letting you go until someone come. I don't even care if these folks have to pull me up off of you. I'm not I'm not leaving you,'" she said.

Moore says Jarell wasn't the type of person to be involved in trouble.

"He wasn't a bad-hearted person. He wasn't a cold-hearted person. I know he didn't leave with no regret on his heart because he did right by people," she said.

Now Moore is questioning what happened leading up to the shooting and hopes the neighborhood shot-spotter cameras will bring quick evidence to the case.

"I pray he gets justice because that right there is something he deserves. Definitely," Moore said.

Tylik Green is being held without bond and is charged with murder.

Anyone with more information on the shooting can call the Bibb County Sheriff's Office at 478-751-7500.
