MACON, Ga. — Dozens of people walked south Macon sidewalks with trash bags and pickers in hand Saturday morning.
It was for the 5th community-wide cleanup hosted by Macon-Bibb County and Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful since they launched the Clean Streets Matter initiative in 2021.
They focused on the Mercer University Drive side of the old Macon mall, collecting old signs from the right of way.
Those who signed up received trash bags, litter pickers, vests, and gloves.
Mayor Lester Miller says when people see the cleanup, then more people will get involved to keep Macon-Bibb beautiful.
Tony Hall, who helped clean up at the event, says that he wanted to give back to the community.
"We heard about this event and so we wanted to come out and give back to the community by giving our service to come by and make sure Macon stays beautiful by giving service and help clean up," he said.
The cleanup lasted from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday.
