More than three weeks after Milledgeville Police Chief Dray Swicord self-reported a DUI charge, the city manager has outlined how he’ll be disciplined.
BACKGROUND
Swicord reported to city manager Barry Jarrett that he had been arrested Friday, August 17, in Ivey after he was stopped by a Georgia State Patrol trooper.
Jarrett asked the city attorney to investigate the DUI, and after reviewing all of the information, he has formally announced how Swicord will be disciplined.
These are the following sanctions imposed by Jarrett, effective on Saturday, Sept. 15.:
- Swicord will be suspended without pay for 2 weeks
- After his suspension, he will receive a 5% pay cut for 6 months
- He will complete the state’s DUI reduction program on his own dime
- He must complete a 2-year probation imposed by POST
- If he enters a plea or is found guilty of DUI (first offense), he must complete the terms of the probation/punishment incurred
- More sanctions can be imposed after the final settlement
Maj. John Davis will continue to be acting chief until the end of the two week suspension, at which point Swicord will return to his position.
