Tripp Family Christmas Lights tradition continues in Cochran

Christmas lights are a holiday must-have, and no one knows that better than these two Cochran families

COCHRAN, Ga. — This holiday season, people across Central Georgia have gone above and beyond with their Christmas decorations.

This is especially true for the Greene family, who are continuing a Cochran Christmas tradition that has been around for decades.

"I love Christmas and I miss the lights, but me and the wife can't do it anymore. I enjoy coming over here because it's a joy to my heart to someone still do it," says Joseph Tripp.

Tripp and his wife Marie began setting up massive amounts of Christmas lights 30 years ago to cheer up their son who was battling cancer.

"The longer he was sick, the more he wanted the lights every year," says Marie Tripp. "He didn't ask for anything much, just the lights, and his dad really put on the lights."

Decades later, the Tripps' son is doing great. However in 2014, the Tripps could not continue the tradition of wowing the neighborhood.

After buying their fruit farm in 2018, couple Leigh Ann and Earl Greene decided it was time to bring back the Cochran staple with more lights than ever.

"We wanted to bring it all back to life so everyone could still enjoy the tradition," says Leigh Ann. The Greenes and their three daughters were fans of the lights for years before the tradition ended.

Now, for Greene Acres Farm's 2nd annual Christmas lights show has over 50,000 lights and some special scenes.
