The city of Yatesville held its annual Chitlin Festival Saturday.
It's a bit of an unlikely treat, but it's been bringing folks to the town of about 400 people for 33 years. The day kicked off with a parade around town, graced by the chitlin king and queen. There were also games and 75 different vendors. For those that don't know, chitlins are hog intestines, and they can be fried or boiled.
One of the organizers, Ginger Tyler, told WMAZ's Hunter Joyce it's a tasty dish.
"They love the chitlins," she said. "I've got calls for the past month or so, of course about vendors, but also about the chitlin hoe-down. They come from all around. They even come and bring containers. At the end of the festival, they'll get containers full of the boiled chitlins."
Tyler said all of the proceeds go back into the community, supporting the library, Lion's Club and other causes.
