'Utter ridiculousness' | Central Georgians deal with FedEx mail delays

A new study ranked Georgia the second-worst state for holiday deliveries this year - and many Central Georgians are upset with the delays.

MACON, Ga. — As we get closer to Christmas Day, some Central Georgians are waiting for those late-arriving gifts.

We received several complaints from viewers asking 'What's the deal?' Many of them cite problems with FedEx.

Terry Peters says she has had enough of the runarounds FedEx has given her about a Christmas gift for her grandson.

She says her husband ordered a toy dump truck on the Dec. 11 and says it was coming from Rincon, Georgia - just outside of Savannah.

"We were told it would be delivered on the 14th. Well, the 14th comes and there's still no update," Peters said.

Peters says called FedEx representatives and they kept giving her different answers.

"At 6:30 last night, she said she spoke to the facility and that the facility would be putting it on a truck and bring it to our home in the next two hours -- absolutely nothing. I requested an escalated ticket," Peters said.

The representative told her to call back Tuesday for that ticket and told 13WMAZ. On Dec. 14, her package says it was still in Macon, Georgia at the Frank Amerson Parkway shipping center off Hartley Bridge Road. She says this is frustrating with the holidays, but she is not the only one.

Yolonda Basilio says she ordered a bookcase for her office in her home at the beginning of December.

"I got a notification, I think December the 2nd or 3rd, that said it was on its way," Basilio said.

The next notification was on Dec. 6 with an update about the package.

"It said there was a problem with the label and I'm like, 'Why can't they just reprint the label if, if you need a new label, print the label,'" Basilio said.

After several calls and a complaint, Basilio received another notification that the package would be delivered on Dec. 11.

13WMAZ reached out to FedEx about the issue other Georgians are having and they sent us a statement saying:

"We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused by delays in areas serviced out of our Macon facility and appreciate our customers’ patience as we implement contingencies – including securing additional delivery resources, extending operation hours and delivery times, and expanding package sorts – to deliver these packages as quickly as possible. Customers can visit www.fedex.com or use the FedEx app for package tracking or for customer service assistance."

Peters and Basilio aren't buying this response.

"This happened last year for my nephew's wedding. My husband ordered a tent. He was getting married on September 23rd. For a month, we tracked this tent and for at least half of that month it was in Macon, Georgia at the Frank Amerson location and we never got the tent," Peters said.

"For someone like me, I rely on FedEx for a lot of things. I have medication that comes here. It's a specialty medication. So it comes through FedEx to my door. My food for my animals comes a lot of times through FedEx from the merchant. It's how I live my life and people think it's a small thing but for somebody like me, it's a big impact."

After our story aired, Basilio received her package around 5:50 p.m. Tuesday after the posted delivery time was between 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
