MACON, Ga. — These two Central Georgia sisters haven't shared a stage in five years but now at Macon Little Theatre (MLT), they are both leading ladies.
On Saturday you can catch Stratford student Abigail Watson and her older sister Anna Watson in the musical Spring Awakening.
It is an emotional coming-of-age rock musical about young teens as they discover their sexuality and learn more about themselves as people.
Abigail says she auditioned for the show because she wanted to be in a production with a good story and be a part of telling a compelling message.
"I love getting to connect with people and bring something to the stage that some people may need to see, and I just love getting to portray something like that for people who don't always get to see something like that," Abigail said.
And now, she gets to do it all with her sibling.
"Getting to act next to my sister is really, really, really fun. I love that I'm getting to do it again because I feel like I'm able to learn a lot from her just cause she's older and she's done a lot too. So, I love getting to learn from her," Abigail said.
She says Anna is a great performer because she is so good at truly stepping into a character.
"Her emotions are so strong when she's acting, and I feel like I don't see my sister I see the character when I look at her acting," she said.
As for Anna, she spent some time away from Central Georgia, and when she returned, she didn't originally want to go back to theatre. She says it was only after getting some encouragement from her MLT family that she felt confident enough to get back in the spotlight.
"Being able to freely express my emotions, I would say that's probably my favorite part about acting and being able to kind of open those doors inside of me and not only be vulnerable to myself but to everybody around me," she said.
Anna said Macon Little Theatre gave her a sense of community again.
She says having her sister with her in the rehearsal process has been fun. During the rehearsal process, she and Abigail will share knowing looks with each other and laugh together.
"I honestly see it as a blessing cause she is so, so talented and she has such a bright future ahead of her and I feel like every time I see her on stage there is just something I can absorb and soak up from her," she said.
Anna says her sister is a great performer and loves sharing a stage with her.
"She's so good at everything that she does. She puts in so much work behind the scenes and it's just... it's insane, her commitment to this kind of thing," Anna said.
You can see the sisters in Spring Awakening which opens this Saturday.
The show is a part of MLT: After Dark which means it is most suitable for mature audiences. You can get tickets to the show online.
