Central Georgia shows its support for the Pike County Pirates

The tragedy of losing a teammate hits close to home for the Peach County Trojans, who locked arms and prayed with the Pike County Pirates at last night's vigil

Central Georgia is showing an outpouring of support for the Pike County community following the death of one of their high school linebackers from an injury he received at Friday’s game against Peach County.

After #32 Dylan Thomas was taken off the field in an ambulance, the two teams gathered together on the prayer in field before the rest of the game was called out of consideration for his family.

Greg Parrott was at the game and sent video to 13WMAZ, which shows Peach County joining the Pike County Pirates in prayer.

Thomas had surgery hours after the game, but was left in a coma. A vigil was also held in Zebulon on Sunday night.

Some Peach County coaches and players decided to make the trip up to Zebulon for the vigil to let them know they are not alone.

“[We wanted] to just give our support and wanted to let them know we are behind them [and] if there is anything we can to do let us know,” said coach Chad Campbell. “Our thoughts and prayers and our community in Peach County is rooting for Dylan and his family.”

Tragically, school officials confirmed Thomas’ death around 8 p.m. Sunday.

Central Georgia quickly responded once his death was reported with prayers and words of encouragement for his friend, family and teammates.
