Centerville police chief resigns after 7 months

After just seven months, the city of Centerville is looking for a new police chief.

After just seven months, the city of Centerville is looking for a new police chief.

Ronald Rodgers resigned Tuesday night, according to city council member Cameron Andrews.

Andrews would not say why and would not comment further.

Mayor John Harley and other council members did not return our phone calls.

Rodgers was just hired in February after an eight month search -- that's one month longer than he lasted on the job.

He was previously a police chief in Marshallville, chief investigator at Fort Valley State campus police, and a captain with Bibb County campus police.

Former Chief Sidney Andrews stepped down in June 2015. At the time, councilman Edward Tucker took over as director of police services before leaving a few weeks later.

While the frequent change in leadership has some people worried, most say they have confidence in their police department.

"If their leader leaves, they're already trained. They know what to do. If they're between leadership, I don't see how it would affect them," said Jimmy Johnson.

The Centerville Department has 15 sworn officers, and a $2 million dollar budget.
