Candidate forum in Fort Valley offers chance to hear from candidates

A number of candidates will convene at the Peach County Court House for a candidate forum from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

FORT VALLEY, Ga. — At the Peach County Courthouse in Fort Valley, a number of candidates vying for positions in Fort Valley Government will introduce themselves to voters on Tuesday.

As the elections approach, many of these candidates will convene for a candidate forum, according to a press release promoting the event. They say that it will be taking place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The event is organized by two chapters of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority

The Gamma Pi Omega and the Alpha  Beta Chapter hope the event helps voters have the chance to meet candidates, learn about their political beliefs and make more informed decisions when election day comes around.

They say that there will be candidates vying for both City Council and Utilities Commission, and attendees will have the ability to ask candidates questions, according to the press release.

“We believe that informed and engaged citizens are the foundation of a strong and vibrant community,” said Tracy Riley, Chapter President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Gamma Pi Omega Chapter. “We are proud to provide this forum as an opportunity for our community members to learn about the candidates who are vying to represent their interests and make a difference in our city.”

According to the press release, the event will be moderated by a retired educator and community leader named Donnita Bellamy. They say that Bellamy is "known for her impartiality and commitment to fair and informative discussions."
