Byron mother and daughter make 'intentional memories' at the Georgia National Fair

Monet Chapman says she started taking her daughter to the fair to spend quality time together.

BYRON, Ga. — Monet Chapman and her daughter Navaea are excited to enjoy the food, and the rides and make everlasting memories at the Georgia National Fair

Chapman says she started taking her daughter after she adopted her when she was one years old. Now six years old, Navaea loves heights and looks forward to the rides.

Chapman says she grew up in a small town in North Carolina where there wasn't a fair like this. She says these are meaningful memories for her too.

"I do remember my mom being very intentional about spending quality time and so that's where this comes into play, the intention of spending the quality time and making memories," Chapman said.

From the rides to the food and even the animals, Chapman and her daughter come to the fair on a mission, to have fun.

"We do enjoy going and mapping out the fair though. So, we start first thing in the morning we like to know, what food and things are available," Chapman said.

She says she's intentional about taking her daughter because they get to spend quality time together and make memories. Chapman says the fair is fitting for her daughter.

"It's kind of hard to go out and hit Six Flags or something like that and they don't always have rides that are suitable for someone her age, especially with us starting at one. So I do like that. The fair gives us the ability to have so many things that are age-appropriate for her, Chapman said.

Navaea says she likes eating hot dogs and funnel cake at the fair. However, her mom says this year they are on a mission to do something they've tried to do in the past.

"She's a little bit nervous but with her being six this year at the fair, I think we are going to tackle the ski lift," Chapman said.
