UPDATE: Body reported floating in Ocmulgee River drowning turns out to be trash can

So far, no word on how the trash can got in the river or where it's headed.

UPDATE, 6:10 p.m.:

The state Department of Natural Resources and other agencies put a boat in the river near Highway 96 and also launched a helicopter search.

Houston County fire chief Chris Stoner says they finally sighted the item from the air and determined it wasn't a body -- it was a trash can. He says they called off the search within the past hour.

So far, no word on how the trash can got in the river or where it's headed.

Crews in Twiggs County are looking for a body reportedly seen in the Ocmulgee River.

Colonel James Faulk of the Twiggs Sheriff's Office says the Department of Natural Resources has put a boat into the river to search.

He says the body was allegedly seen near Highway 96 on the Twiggs Houston line, but he says so far, that report is unconfirmed.
