7-year-old Bleckley County child dead after falling off truck, release says

Bleckley County Sheriff Daniel Cape said the accident happened on Porter Road near the intersection of Westside School Road around 6:20 p.m. on Friday.

BLECKLEY COUNTY, Ga. — A seven-year-old is dead after a vehicle-related accident, according to Bleckley County Sheriff Daniel Cape.

Mitchell Holiday, a child from Cochran, fell off a truck while hanging onto the back of it on Friday.

Sheriff Cape said that the accident happened on Porter Road near the intersection of Westside School Road around 6:20 p.m. Friday. He added Holiday "received injuries involving a vehicle," but could not comment further on the situation, as the case was turned over to Georgia State Patrol (GSP).

GSP said Holiday was standing on the back bumper of a white Ford Expedition and was holding onto the back of it. The release said after the vehicle took off, he fell off the back of the truck without the driver knowing.

Cape said that he asks the community to "remember the family, keep them in your prayers." He told 13WMAZ that no one would be charged in the accident.

Bleckley County Primary School shared a photo on Facebook of Holiday, noting how heartbroken they are about the loss. They said school counselors will be available for anyone who may need assistance or someone to talk to.

"We send our deepest condolences to the family and all who knew this beautiful child," the post read. "We will remember his bright spirit, sweet nature and incredible work ethic. He will always be close to our hearts."

Other schools, including Pulaski County Elementary, reached out and offered their condolences as well.

Alexius Woodfaulk, who said they were the Holiday's aunt, made a GoFundMe on behalf of his mom to cover the funeral expenses. If interested in donating, you can find the link here.
