'We stayed outside, slept in the car': Black Friday shoppers find big deals in Macon discount store

Folks camped out at Daily Dealz in Macon to get clothes, kitchen sets, TVs, and more for as low as $4.

MACON, Ga. — There are 29 days until Christmas, and people are hustling to get gifts. This Black Friday, shoppers came out in Central Georgia looking for a good deal.

From Black Friday until Cyber Monday, the National Retail Federation expects about 166 million people to shop for deals, bringing in anywhere from $940 to $960 billion.

Friday some folks took to the mall, but others took a non-traditional approach.

Since Wednesday, there has been a line outside of Daily Dealz in Macon.

They are a discount liquidation store on Shurling Drive, and their slogan is "Where Every Day is Black Friday,"

The store buys truckloads of stuff from different large retailers like Amazon and Target.

Each day they fill large pins with the items and sell them, but the deals for Black Friday were half their normal prices.

"It starts at $10 on Friday and goes down to 50 cents on Wednesday. This Black Friday sale we're starting at $4," says manager Sam Shahada.

He says the process is like a big treasure hunt, because even they don't know what they're going to get.

Folks get so excited to see what they'll find they started trying to line up on Wednesday. By Friday morning, Shahada says that nearly 1,000 people were looking to get in.

"Last Black Friday we weren't able to do a sale like this because we didn't want the crowd. There was social distancing. This would be our biggest Black Friday yet," he says.

People came from as far as Tennessee and Alabama.

James Walden says his family came from Covington, Georgia. They camped outside since 9 p.m. Thursday.

"We stayed outside, slept in the car," he says.

For them it was worth it, they were able to get plenty of Christmas gifts for family and friends.

"I got just about everything from guitar equipment, to cameras, tripods, kitchen stuff and mystery boxes," he says

He says he was even able to do it without the Black Friday fight.

Aside from Christmas gifts, Walden says they came for the fun.

"After several years of COVID, and everything it's nice to be out and have fun," says Walden.

Throughout the day people got some really good things like blenders, gaming consoles, Louis Vuitton dupes, comforter sets, and 40-inch TVs, all for $4.

Shahada says their next big sale will be for their 2-year anniversary in January.
