Bibb Sheriff's Office donates toys to Beverly Knight Olson Children's Hospital for Christmas

Every December the hospital transforms one of its rooms into the 'Holly Jolly Shoppe,' a place where patients and parents can pick out gifts for Christmas.

MACON, Ga. — Tuesday morning, the Bibb County Sheriff's Office made a special delivery to the Atrium Health Beverly Knight Olson Children's Hospital just in time for Christmas.

Sheriff David Davis, along with a few deputies, arrived at the children's hospital in trucks loaded with toys for kids being treated there.

Every December, the hospital transforms one of its rooms into the 'Holly Jolly Shoppe,' a place where patients and parents can pick out gifts for Christmas.

The Sheriff's Office loves to pitch in and donate as much as they can to the Shoppe each year, and Davis says it's heartwarming to give back to the community.

"It just gives you an uplifting feeling to be able to bring some cheer to these kids that are down here at the hospital and let them know that we at the sheriff's office are here for them and are thinking about them during this holiday season...and certainly their families as well," he said.

Several kids and families rely on the Shoppe to help them during the holidays, and Certified Child Life Specialist Heather Trescott says she sees firsthand the joy it brings families.

"Even though I've been here for 8 years, it never ceases to warm my heart with how much our community supports our patients...nobody asks to be in the hospital especially around the holidays, and for kids that look forward to Christmastime and presents and Santa and all these fun things, it's hard for them to be in the hospital...and thanks to the community we can make sure Christmas still happens," she said.

She went on to say that well over 100 kids benefit from this program, and each kid gets to pick out a few items that bring them happiness.

The hospital is still accepting donations, and you can drop off toys and other items at the hospital at 888 Pine Street in Macon.
