MACON, Ga. — The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a 12-year-old was shot on Houston Ave on Wednesday.
Bibb deputies originally received a call for a car crash just after 4 p.m. in the 3400 block of Houston Avenue on Wednesday, according to a press release.
On the way to the scene deputies received another call about shots fired in the area.
When they got to the scene, Macon-Bibb dispatch told deputies that someone drove a12-year-old gunshot victim to Atrium Health Navicent with non-life threatening injuries.
They later discovered that the earlier car crash involved the same 12-year-old who was shot.
The child and other people were in a stolen car when it crashed.
The owner of a Chevy Tahoe was involved in the initial crash. He told deputies he noticed, while driving on Houston Avenue, the car his girlfriend had reported stolen earlier that day.
The Tahoe owner tried to make contact with the stolen car when it failed to yield to a stop sign and crashed into a Silver SUV.
The man and the people in the stolen vehicle fired shots at each other.
At this time, this incident is still under investigation and charges are pending.
