MACON — For parents who put their kids on the bus, that sometimes means waiting in the cold.
But the Bibb County School District is using technology to keep your children warm.
Heather Hanselman wakes her kids up early to get them dressed and ready before the school bus arrives.
With cold temperatures in the forecast, she is now able to track her children's bus by using the My Stop mobile app by signing in with her child's student ID number.
"It helps make sure they're on time, they're out here before that bus comes," Hanselman said.
Bibb County Schools says the app provides arrival information, notifications of delays and if the bus has already passed their child's stop.
Hanselman says the app also helps parents like her with a disability.
"I use it because I'm deaf, and I would like to know," Hanselman said.
While parents put their kids on the bus, Route Supervisor Michael Cheeks make sure everything runs smoothly.
"All of our route buses are located with GPS locator modules," Cheek said.
Cheek says those modules monitor speed and the drivers' route.
"We're really trying to get a handle on the My Stop, and get the parents to utilize that," Cheek said.
Parents like Hanselman love the app, though it gives her trouble sometimes.
"Oh Lord, it's half and half, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't," Hanselman said.
Bibb County Schools says sometimes the GPS module on the bus needs to be reset, but if you run into problems, you can get help.
"You can send in a request through the Let's Talk app, and we also have a direct contact through staff," Hanselman said.
The My Stop app is free, and is available through iTunes or the Google Play Store.
