Baldwin County residents clean up after weekend storms

According to the emergency management director, over 3,300 homes lost power.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — The National Weather Service reported several power outages and downed trees in Baldwin County.

According to Baldwin County Emergency Management Director Wayne Johnson, many areas that saw storm damage were cleaned up yesterday.

Homeowners near Lake Sinclair, Hardwick and Milledgeville told us they felt the weather impact with downed trees and no power.

Ed Dominy lives near Baldwin High School. He says a tree fell on the fence next to his house, but he's grateful the damage wasn't worse.

"It had broken it off about halfway up and, destroyed part of the fence... But it was a lot of rain, a lot of wind, but very little thunder and lightning. And thank heavens, it only lasted just a few minutes," Dominy said.

Georgia Power, Tri-county and Washington County EMC serve the county. Dominy says his home was one without power.

"Power was out probably, less than two hours. Tri-County is good about getting it back on," Dominy said. "They were on the ball and we appreciate them."

Dominy told 13WMAZ he was watching TV with his wife on Sunday when it got dark and he heard thunder and lightning.

"I got up and went to the front door and looked out and the wind was blowing like crazy. I heard a bump and a bang," Dominy said.

Dominy says he started cutting the tree down in the late morning. He hopes to have it cleared out by Tuesday at the latest.

Dominy says he's served in the Air Force from 1970 to 1974 and he lives helping and serving the community. He says he volunteered during relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina and Sunday's storm didn't compare.

"That's rewarding to help people who have lost, you know, everything," Dominy said.

Dominy says he is grateful he and his wife are safe.
