HOUSTON COUNTY, Georgia — Another name is in the Houston County Sheriff's race and it is a familiar one.
Matt Moulton announced on Facebook that he would be running for sheriff in 2024 to replace Sheriff Cullen Talton. Talton has been in office for 51 years and 13 terms. He is the longest-serving active sheriff in the Peach State. Houston County called him the longest-serving sheriff in the United States.
Moulton has served in Central Georgia for more than 28 years. Earlier this year he received the Joseph Whitehead Jr. award. He has served in narcotics is Houston County for more than 20 years. He currently serves as the Criminal Investigations Division Lieutenant at Houston County Sheriff's Office.
Moulton joins the race alongside Slate Simons and Houston County District Attorney William Kendall, though Kendall's official announcement isn't expected til next week.
A campaign website shows Kendall is running for Houston County Sheriff. Kendall says that he has not officially announced his run for sheriff, but he filed paperwork with the Secretary of State around Nov. 9 or Nov. 10. Kendall is expected to make his official announcement in the coming weeks.

I am so proud and humbled to announce that after many prayers and conversations, I will be running for Sheriff of Houston County in 2024. I would like to thank those of you who have shown your support for me thus far and thank you for the love and prayers as I begin this journey."
