An Americus high football player died Saturday after drowning in a pond.
According to Sumter County Coroner Greg Hancock, 17-year-old Jamorrion Johnson was heading out to fish in a private pond around 5 p.m.
Hancock says that the boat's battery died and when Johnson tried to swim back to shore to get a paddle, he drowned.
Johnson is listed as a linebacker for the Americus-Sumter team.
