The Academy for Classical Education, a locally-approved charter school in Macon, is getting 700 new laptops. The Bibb Board of Education gave final approval for the purchase during their monthly meeting.
The funding for the 700 Google Chromebooks comes from the current Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, or ESPLOST. Since Bibb County is the school's authorizer, they are eligible to receive ESPLOST dollars.
Bibb Assistant Superintendent of Technology services Mike Kemp says "this will be a big benefit for them" since ACE currently only has about 50 computers in two labs for the whole K-10 school.
The 700 Lenovo Google Chromebooks will cost $359,138.
