MACON, Ga. — One Macon minister is collecting donations for the Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian destroyed parts of the island nation and took at least 30 lives last week.
Warm socks -- something Dianna Hollins says can be easily taken for granted.
"We want to take 18 wheelers -- I'm serious -- truckloads. We want to have a real impact in helping others," said Hollins.
Hollins serves as a minister for the House of Shekinah Glory, and she says they want to fill this entire room with donations to help the Bahamas.
"We have women who can't find their kids. We want them to know while we may not be with them, we are with them," said Hollins.
She says they're sending whatever they collect to their sister ministry, iPad Ministries in Nassau, led by Denise Johnson.
"We don't want to openly say the state these people have been in, but thank you and God bless you," said Johnson.
Johnson is on the ground in Nassau, delivering aid to Bahamians.
"We went into the center to deliver toiletries and disinfectant and sanitary items and to see this level of need, these are women and children," said Johnson
Hollins says it's a group effort. She's partnered with other churches and organizations in Georgia to get the word out.
"There are other ministries in other states. This is not a one person thing, we are doing this collaboratively," said Hollins.
Items they are looking for include:
- Water
- Towels
- Toothbrusges
- Hand Sanitizer
- Blankets
- Dettol
- Toothpaste
- Lysol
- Sanitary napkins
- Wash cloths
- Deodorant
- Soap
- Pine Sol
Hollins has set up a drop off location at the House of Shekinah Glory at 3752 Eisenhower Parkway in Macon.
They advise you set up a drop off appointment with Cornelia Walker. You can reach her at 478-501-0408 for more details.
If you don't have items to donate or money to spend, they need a truck driver and a truck.
