DUBLIN, Ga. — It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a Dublin grandma in the sky! Cathaleen Traylor is 77-years-old and recently checked off going skydiving on her bucket list.
It's the newest dinner conversation at her family home.
"She's always been strong, adventurous, she's always been the kind of woman that just go, go, go. She needs to teach a class on how to be a woman. Yes sir, they don't make 'em like her anymore," Traylor's younger brother Randal Daniel said.
Her family's given her a new nickname recently- the crazy skydiving grandma.
"That was one of the things on my bucket list, was to go skydiving. And I wanted to do it for my 75th birthday, but my children objected," Traylor said.
She has two daughters she raised as a single mom when her husband passed away. But Traylor knows how to get through tough times- she was raised as one of 13 children.
"And I've worked all my life to help support my brothers and sisters. And I said to my dad, I said, 'you know dad, for the first time in my life, I wanna be selfish,'" Traylor said.
So being selfish looked like jumping out of a plane at 77-years-old, despite her family's protest.
"Well I, I've had both knees replaced. 'You're gonna hurt your knees, and you're too old.' No, no, no. If I hurt my knees, I'll just get some new ones," she said.
Traylor said age is just a number to her. She lives at the same property where she was born and maintains all the yard work by herself. She said an active lifestyle is key to staying young.
"Well you just get up every day, and you thank God for giving you one more day. And you ask God for strength so that you could do whatever you needs to do," Traylor said.
Her brother said he's thankful for her being like a second mother to him all his life- when he was a baby, and still today.
"They don't make 'em like her anymore. She's solid. I mean, we're talking about a woman that goes, goes, goes. I don't think she knows she's 77," Daniel said.
Traylor hopes everyone remembers, it's not too late to ever chase your dreams.
"To me, the older we get, the more wiser we should get and if there's anything that we want to do, we need to do it because life is short," she said.
Traylor went skydiving with her nephew. She said her grandson wanted to go, but he's 14-years-old, and the minimum age requirement is 18-years-old.
Since there's no maximum age limit, she wants to go again with her grandson in four years.
