TROUP COUNTY, Ga. — A 3-year-old was airlifted to an Atlanta area hospital after being pulled from West Point Lake on Monday, according to the Troup County Sheriff's Office

Deputies were dispatched to Yellow Jacket Beach on West Point Lake at 6:22 p.m. in response to a "possible drowning," the sheriff's office said in a release.

When deputies arrived, the sheriff's office said they found a 3-year-old who had been pulled from the water, and a bystander was giving CPR to the child. That's when the sheriff's office said deputies took over lifesaving measures.

"The child was airlifted to an Atlanta area hospital, where we understand he is still receiving treatment. This appears to be a tragic accident," the sheriff's office concluded in the release.

Authorities released no other details at this time.
