18-year-old charged with murder in September shooting death of Dublin man

The shooting happened on Sept. 11.

DUBLIN, Ga. — An 18-year-old Dublin man has been arrested and charged with murder in a September shooting, according to the GBI.

Quentin Vanteryll Gibson was taken into custody and booked into the Laurens County jail on Wednesday. Gibson is accused of shooting and killing 35-year-old Cortez Hicks.

Hicks was found inside his home on Jones Villages Lane in Dublin just before noon on Sept. 11 with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Gibson was charged with Murder and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.

We previously spoke with Hicks’ sister,  Jetta Myricks

"I really do miss him," Myricks said. "Whoever did that to him, he didn't deserve to get killed like that."

Friends and family at the scene say they are not sure why this happened to Hicks, who is being remembered as a loving brother, son, friend, uncle and father.

"Y'all took him away from his child, and his nieces and nephews," Myricks said. "And I feel like y'all took him away from me, and that's all that I had. That was my backbone."

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the GBI regional investigative office in Eastman at 478-374-6988 or the Dublin Police Department Crime Text line at 478-595-7279.
