CRISP COUNTY, Ga. — A 15-year-old boy is dead after drowning at Georgia Veterans State Park according to a Facebook post from the Crisp County Sheriff's Office.
The release says around 4:20 p.m. on Saturday first responders were dispatched to Georgia Veterans State Park in reference to a possible drowning between the beach and the mega-ramp.
Around 4:55 p.m. authorities recovered the body of a 15-year-old boy from Lake Blackshear.
Crisp County Emergency Services took the boy to Crisp Regional Hospital. Air Evac Life Team 86 joined Crisp County Emergency Services in performing life-saving measures while en-route.
After all life-saving measures were exhausted the boy was pronounced at Crisp Regional.
A public relations officer for Crisp County told 13WMAZ the boy was swimming in an area by the boat launch which is not designated as a beach swimming area.
"I extend my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones as they experience this unimaginable loss. I greatly appreciate the outpour of assistance received from local and neighboring first responders,” Billy Hancock said.
