Little League Regional Tournament needs more volunteers

The tournament kicks off next month in Warner Robins and they still have 800 positions to fill.

Across the Southeast, players, coaches, and families are gearing up to play ball, but they aren't the only ones who make next month's Little League Regional Tournament possible.

They need volunteers.

Over 100 volunteers have already signed up, but they need to fill over 800 positions during the softball and baseball tournament in Warner Robins.

Matt Weber, the tournament's Assistant Regional Director, says volunteering is a rewarding experience that will keep you coming back over and over.

"Little League is like a disease. You hear a lot of us on staff will say that. You catch it and you can't give it away. I think they enjoy themselves hanging out with fellow volunteers. It's a good time. It's a relaxed atmosphere," Weber said.

Volunteers must be over 16 and the deadline to apply is July 15th. He says it's a great way to welcome visitors from all over the southeast.

"It's a great opportunity to give back and greet visitors to our area that are coming from West Virginia, Virginia, all these different states, many hours, many miles away. They're coming to experience Warner Robins and the surrounding communities," Weber said.

They are looking for people to work in concessions, the press box, gift shop and other spots.

Weber says they have people who have volunteered nine or ten years in a row.

"They just enjoy being out here, seeing the kids smile, have fun, and just the joys that come with it," said Weber.

The softball tournament is from July 25th through the 29th and the baseball tournament starts August 2nd and ends on the 7th.

There will be a volunteer meeting on July 9th at 6:30 p.m. at the Little League Southeast Park. Weber says volunteers who have already signed up and those who are interested in signing up are welcome.
