The Runions' car and their bodies were found in three different locations in Telfair County, within about a one-mile radius of each other, according to investigators.
The sheriff's office today discussed more details about the disappearance of a Cobb County couple, Bud and June Runion, and the man accused of luring them to Telfair County last week.
On Monday, bodies that were believed to be the Runions were found off Webb Cemetery Road in Telfair County. An autopsy being conducted at a GBI crime lab could confirm their identities.
And a Telfair County man, Jay Towns, 28, is accused of making false statements to investigators and of attempting to defraud the couple.
Tuesday, Sheriff Chris Steverson would not comment on the cause of death for the two bodes or whether they had visible injuries. He declined to comment on how he thinks the couple died.
He said Towns formerly worked for a tree- or brush-cutting service but had been out of work for weeks. He said Towns had been living with his parents' at their home on Webb Cemetery Road and appeared to be separated or divorced.
Towns is being held in the Dodge County jail, and Steverson and will make his first appearance before a magistrate judge at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Towns is not charged in the Runions' death.
He is also the only person charged in the case, and the sheriff said they're not currently looking for other suspects. As he did on Monday, Steverson said his office is still investigating leads in the case and it's possible others maybe charged.
Investigators said two different search crews found the bodies and the Runions' car.
The couple reportedly traveled to Telfair County last Thursday to meet with someone about a classic used car. Steverson said that Towns does not own any such car, and he believes the suspect planned to defraud the Runions.
Although the Towns family owns nearly 200 acres off Webb Cemetery Road, the bodies and car were not found on their property.
