MACON, Ga. — A Howard High School student faces a misdemeanor sexual battery charge after an incident at the school Wednesday.
Bibb County schools spokeswoman Stephanie Hartley released a statement on the case Friday that does not name the 18-year-old male student or describe what happened.
But she says a 15-year-old girl reported the incident to a friend and then to an administrator.
She said it happened on campus during after-school activities Wednesday.
Campus police investigated and decided to charge the boy with misdemeanor sexual battery.
Hartley wrote, "We are thankful the female student came forward, and we urge parents and students not to jump to any conclusions about this incident so the investigation will continue to be fair and without judgment of those involved."
She added that, "Out of concern for the well-being of the students involved, our district is providing support services to both families."
