MACON, Ga. — First Presbyterian Day School in Macon.is going full steam ahead this year with its new S.T.E.A.M initiatives.
"I didn't think that I would be able to do this," says 2nd grader Maddie Maeder.
Maeder is talking about the school's S.T.E.A.M initiative.
"So the innovation station, the innovation lab, and the STEM, S.T.E.A.M program is something new this year, which is a great opportunity for our students to experience and we've had a lot of generous gifts given to us for us to implement this program," says Anna Leigh Hutcheson steam teacher.
"It's a lot of fun we get to use a little robot called bolt and we get to do something called an algorithm it helps us make him into a square, and we get to decide what the heading is and how fast it goes," says Maeder.
"They are able to build, and they are able to have a great time doing things they will need to do and learn in real-life scenarios," says Hutcheson.
Lower-grade students aren't the only ones who get to participate.
"7th and 8th grade has the choice of medical detectives where they are actually learning about vital signs taking vital signs. doing blood pressure and things like that," says Audra Hubbard upper school steam coordinator.
"I hope that these students take away an enriching experience that they look back on fondly where they are able to realize that they had people invested in them who loved them and cared about them and grouped the passions in them," says Hutcheson.
"I get excited when we come to this class because we get to use pieces and put them together," says Maeder
