MACON, Ga. — For those of us needing freshly grown veggies like tomatoes, peppers, squash, okra and cucumbers-- head over to Appling Middle School, where the plant sale is happening.
Students in the Future Farmers of America (FFA) club tend to the plants throughout the year.
They switch up which types of crops, flowers and other types of plants as seasons change.
However, eighth grader Shawn-nese Reeves and sixth grader Curry Bond say there's one thing that stays consistent throughout time:
"Plants don't grow right in dirt, they grow better in soil," they said together.
It's something they learned in the FFA club from their teacher, Aaliyah Taylor.
Her students say their favorite part of FFA is participating in hands-on activities like gardening in the greenhouse and planting seeds in beds.
"It teaches you more about it, and you get to go outside more," Reeves said.
Taylor teaches the middle school FFA students, and Gabrielle Lindo teaches the high school FFA students. She also manages the greenhouse the neighboring schools share.
Reeves said her favorite part of tending to the plants is watching them grow.
"It feels like you raised a child," she said.
Reeves and Bond love being part of the plants' lives, from the moment they sprout until they're ready for new homes.
If you want to buy a plant, the sale happens after school every weekday from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m., Taylor said.
It's going on until May 17th.
Congratulations to Appling Middle School on being 13WMAZ's School of the Week.
