See what these Central Georgia Tech students have to say about the new school year

Associate VP for Enrollment Janet Kelly said some students now view CGTC as their first choice because of new opportunities like sports teams and student housing.

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — The Technical College System of Georgia reports more students are attending Central Georgia Technical College. Going into the fall semester, they expect to enroll over 10,000 students - almost 3% more than last year.

Brithani Montalvo said she knew Central Georgia Technical College was the best place to start her college career.

"I feel like the way that I grew up, I didn't really like school,” Montalvo said. “But I would still want to be somebody, so I want to try out the two years to see if I really want to keep studying or not."

Associate Vice President for Enrollment Janet Kelly said some students now view Central Georgia Technical College as their first choice because of new opportunities like sports teams and student housing. The college offers a variety of programs for students to pursue dual enrollment credit, a two-year degree and short-term technical training.

Laura Bautista is attending CGTC on a soccer scholarship and studying radiology. She said she is grateful she will get her first degree and leave with no debt.

"Even though it's a two-year school, it'll benefit me in the long run and, you know, after I might go to a four-year school," Bautista said.

According to the school, 15,000 students isn't the largest enrollment they've seen in history, but it's the highest number they've seen in 10 years. Kelly said, in the long run, they want to grow the school even more. But she said it's been a challenge filling teaching positions.

"Faculty has been a bit of a challenge at times, because of course, with high demand careers, folks can make a lot of money in the career field," Kelly said. "But we want to encourage folks to come and maybe join the faculty at the College of Nursing is a very high demand as far as having faculty members. We can always use more nursing faculty, more industrial systems faculty members."

Fall classes have begun at CGTC, but it's not too late to enroll for this semester. They offer eight-week courses starting in October.

Kelly said the college is looking to hire faculty members. You can find application information on the school's website.
