DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — For the first time in several months, the public heard from the DeKalb County Sheriff about his fight to remain in office.
Sheriff Jeffrey Mann met with reporters Thursday to talk about improvements at the county jail, but he didn't shy away from questions related to his arrest last year.
In May 2017, Mann was charged with exposing himself at Piedmont Park and ended up losing his law enforcement certification following the arrest. He ended up taking a plea deal, but Mann is now appealing the decision to revoke his certification.
"I enjoy being their sheriff," Mann said while taking questions. "And I think I should be judged not by one error, one lapse of judgment, but what I have done as sheriff for the last four years."
Mann said he understands the disappointment, and whenever he's out in DeKalb County, he apologizes to the residents.
Mann is DeKalb County’s 49th sheriff, and served in the department for 10 years, including as chief of staff and as chief deputy.
