ALBANY, Ga. — The victim killed during Saturday night's shooting during an Albany State University homecoming event has been identified, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
De’Marion Tashawn Daniels, 19, was from Newnan. He was not a student at the university. According to the GBI, the shooting happened around 8:50 p.m. in a "crowded area near a campus concert" during homecoming weekend.
The Albany State University Police Department, local, and state law enforcement all helped after the shooting, which also injured five others:
A 13 year-old girl from Albany; a 17 year-old girl and a 16-year-old girl, both local high school students; a 20-year-old girl who was grazed by a bullet; and a 19-year-old girl who got hurt while running away.
The GBI says they stepped in about 20-minutes after the shooting, and locked the campus down. They looked for the suspects, but have not made any arrests yet.
The agency is still investigating what happened. If you have any information, you can call the Albany State University Police Department at 229-430-4711 or send in an anonymous tip by calling the GBI Tip Line at 1-800-597-TIPS (8477).
