UPDATE | Jones Co. teacher facing four charges of child molestation

An investigator says they've interviewed nearly a dozen boys about Tate Wilson

GRAY, Ga. — UPDATE (6:30 p.m.): A Jones County teacher now faces four charges of child-molestation charge and investigators have interviewed nearly a dozen boys about the case, according to investigator Kenny Gleaton.

On Friday, we told you that Clifton Ridge Middle School teacher Wilcher Tate Wilson was charged with molesting a student.

Jones County Superintendent Charles Gibson wouldn't speak to 13WMAZ on camera, but he said he wanted to make sure that the accusations against Wilson were accurate before alerting parents.

Clifton Ridge Middle School's principal did send out a call almost 24 hours after Wilson's arrest.

Shanda Cravey says as a parent, she thought that was too long.

"I actually pulled up Facebook and the first thing I saw was this teacher and that he had been charged and my first reaction was I looked to my son and I said, 'Do you know him? Have you seen him? Have you been around him,'" she said.

Cravey has a son in sixth grade at Clifton Ridge Elementary.

She says she found out about Wilson's arrest from social media, but didn't get an official notice from the school until the next day.

"You want me to trust you, you want me to trust your teachers, but you're not willing to tell me what's going on at the time? You didn't have to tell me the charges that was being brought forth, but you could've at least said we have a situation and it's being handled and you could've put it out, Thursday afternoon,” Cravey said.

Wilson was arrested around 6 p.m. Thursday.

Gibson says the district sent out an "All-Call" alert around 4:45 p.m. Friday to about 800 numbers in Clifton Ridge's automated system.

Peach County Superintendent Lionel Brown agrees with Gibson that safety and accuracy is most important.

"It is our policy to communicate with the parents only after we have gone through our procedures to make sure the kids are safe, the school environment is safe and we've communicated with all the agencies we need in order to help us ensure the safety," Brown said.

Jones County Sheriff's Office Investigator Kenny Gleaton says Wilson faces four counts of child molestation charges, involving three male students.

He will stay in custody until a bond hearing in Jones County Superior Court Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.
