UPDATE: GSP trooper injured during traffic stop in Macon

The officer suffered a head injury on Gray Highway.

MACON, Ga. — A Georgia State Patrol officer was injured during a traffic stop in Macon early Friday morning.

It happened just after 3 a.m. on Gray Highway.

According to preliminary information from Georgia State Patrol, Trooper John Morris stopped a car on North Avenue at Gray Highway. 

The driver got out of the car and began running. While chasing after the driver, Morris fell over a drop-off, and suffered a broken shoulder and head injury.

The driver got back into his car and left the scene. Morris was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.

Police are still searching for the suspect. They say he was driving a silver Chevy Impala.
