Two robberies at the same Macon gas station in less than two months leaves neighbors on edge

Since the multiple robberies happened at the store in a short span of time, neighbors are concerned about the safety of the community they live in.

MACON, Ga. — Angela Pitts said she makes a couple of pit stops at her local convenience store every week.

"I love their pizza, girl, they got the best pizza," Pitts said. "I also gotta get my root beer."

Though the Circle K on Vineville is about a mile from her home in North Macon, she explained that lately, it's not very convenient since there have been two robberies in less than two months at the same store.

"It's got me concerned, so I gotta let somebody know how I feel," Pitts said.

The veteran explained she settled in Macon in 1985 after growing up in Cincinnati and moving around for the Army.

Recently widowed, the 64-year-old lives with a roommate about a mile from the Circle K.

However, since the multiple robberies happened at the store in a short period, Pitts said she's concerned about the safety of the community she lives in.

"It's scary because you'd think it's the same person," she said.

On July 5, Marquitta Robinson worked behind the counter of the Circle K when it was robbed.

"My mind went blank," she told us. "After the whole situation, all I could think about was I really could've been dead."

The man who robbed the store was wearing all dark clothing, a black motorcycle helmet and a gray t-shirt covering his face, according to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

They said the robber took an undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene on a bike.

"He had on all black, so nobody, no one could see him," Robinson recalled.

Nearly six weeks after July's robbery, it happened again around 1 in the morning on Sunday, Aug. 18.

"It'd be nice to know that, if you go in the store, you don't have to fear for your life because somebody comes up in the store, robs it and ends up shooting you," Pitts said.

Pitts added that she thinks there should be more officers at Circle K now that there have been two robberies in such a short span of time.

"Have somebody run shifts-- especially the rookies who are just doing training anyway, put they butt in the freezer," Pitts said, suggesting local law enforcement keep physical eyes and ears on the location at all times.

"The person can go in there and stalk. Why not sit a person in there with a chair?" she continued. "There's gotta be a solution. If anybody's got any more solutions, I'm sure Bibb County would appreciate it, but we gotta do something more than just shooting and tasing."

As far as security  protocols go, Major Robert Spires from BSO's Criminal Investigation  Division said in a statement, "Circle K would need to hire some form of  security to perform this task as having a deputy located in the store to wait until a robbery occurs would not be beneficial or reasonable."

Spires added, "Investigators feel both of these incidents were crimes of opportunity. The store itself was the target for monetary gain. This  location is safe."

BSO said they received one Crime Stoppers tip they're still looking into and are following up on all possibilities and leads as they come in.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500, or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
