Warner Robins man and 15-year-old pleaded guilty to murder charges for attempted carjacking

The two were sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole for killing Gregory Arnett in a Warner Robins Walmart parking lot in July 2021.

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — It was an attempted carjacking gone wrong.

Rickey Martin Jr, 22-year-old, and 15-year-old Ayns Smith both pleaded guilty to felony murder charges for killing Gregory Arnett while he sat in his car at the Booth Road Walmart in Warner Robins back in July 2021.

The Warner Robins Police Department says Martin and Smith pointed a gun at Arnett while he was sitting in his car with the windows down, and they demanded that he give the car to them.

But Arnett tried to get the gun out of Martin's hand.

During the brief struggle, multiple shots were fired into Arnett's car hitting him twice.

The Warner Robins Police Department says that a "microscopic examination" showed that the fatal shot was fired by Smith.

Martin pleaded guilty on May 17 and Smith plead guilty to killing Arnett on May 15.

They both received life sentences with the possibility of parole.

The district attorney William Kendall says that both Martin and Smith will be in prison for the next 30 years before being eligible for parole.
