HALL COUNTY, Ga. — The teen suspected of shooting Hall County Deputy Nicolas Dixon to death Sunday night, 17-year-old Hector Garcia-Solis, had only been out of jail a few days when Sunday night's shooting occurred, according to authorities.
Deputies were attempting to stop a stolen car that they thought was involved in several auto burglaries when the car they were pursuing crashed near the corner of Jesse Jewell Parkway and Highland Avenue in Gainesville, authorities said.
They said that several suspects ran from the crash scene, and were pursued on foot by deputies. Then, at about 11:15 p.m., authorities said the suspects and deputies fired at each other. Deputy Dixon and Garcia-Solis were both struck by gunfire during the exchange.
The two were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where Dixon died. Garcia-Solis was listed in critical condition, where he remained on Monday.
According to the Hall County Sheriff's Office, Garcia-Solis was released from the Hall County Jail on July 2 after being arrested on June 27 for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a suspended license, felony obstruction of an officer, possession of an open container and striking a fixed object.
In connection with the fatal shooting of Dixon, Garcia-Solis is facing a felony murder charge. The other suspects, Brayan Omar Cruz, London Clements, Eric Edgardo Velazquez -- each 17 years old -- face party to a crime and felony murder charges.
