Student arrested for bringing loaded gun to Gwinnett County middle school, officials say

School district officials said the student is facing criminal charges in juvenile court.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A Gwinnett County middle school student has been arrested for bringing a loaded gun to school, district officials announced.

During a press conference, the district said a student at Duluth Middle School brought a loaded semiautomatic 9mm pistol onto a bus and showed it to other students. Those students reported it to the school's administration after seeing it on the bus.

Once the student arrived at the school, officials took him to a secure location to search and question him and the weapon was recovered. The student did not threaten anyone with the gun, investigators said. There is no word on where the weapon came from at this time.

The student, who has not been identified, was arrested and will face criminal charges in juvenile court.

Gwinnett County Public Schools emphasized the importance of parents staying vigilant regarding their children.

"The student will be held accountable for their actions, but parents have a responsibility as well," Gwinnett County Schools Director of Community and Media Relations Bernard Watson said.

In addition to this arrest, Gwinnett County Schools also said it has made 16 arrests for social media threats in the wake of the Apalachee High School shooting.
