Argument over T-shirts leads to deadly shooting, police say

The man was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

ATLANTA — Atlanta police are investigating a deadly shooting near Centennial Olympic Park late Wednesday night.

Authorities said the incident began as a confrontation between two people over the sale of T-shirts during a concert at State Farm Arena. The argument escalated into gunfire in a parking lot on Nassau Street, located about a block from the arena. Officers arrived just after 10:15 p.m. to find an 18-year-old man who had been shot.

The teen, identified as 18-year-old Dexter Devaughn Hoefer Savage Jr., was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Lt. Andrew Smith of the Atlanta Police Department’s Homicide Unit said investigators were on the scene gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing video surveillance from the area.

The suspect has not been identified, and police have not released any additional details about what led to the shooting. The band Creed had been performing at the arena earlier in the evening.
