BURLINGTON, N.C. -- Burlington Police need help in identifying a man who attacked a woman early Monday morning. Police say they got a 911 hang-up call to a house on Lakeside Avenue.

Investigators say the woman was in her backyard when a man approached her and shot her with a pellet handgun or a small caliber handgun. Police say the man then hit her in the face and head area.

A neighbor saw the attack happen and the man who ran away from the house. The woman was able to get to her neighbor's house where EMS arrived. She was taken to Alamance Regional Medical Hospital and then transferred to UNC Hospital for treatment. Police say the woman's injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

Police say the man was tall, thin, and last seen wearing a blue or gray shirt and jean shorts. The suspect covered his face during the attack. Right now police do not know if the suspect knew the victim.

Tuesday afternoon, police released a picture of the suspect's shoe.
