Bibb law enforcement, antiviolence group leader calls for change after 22-year-old's shooting death

Tylik Young, 22, began speaking with the Cure Violence Macon team about joining before his death.

MACON, Ga. — Over the weekend, 13WMAZ told you about the shooting on Third Avenue in Pleasant Hill. 22-year-old Tylik Young was found dead outside. While this is a loss for mother Felicia Young, this is not the first child she has lost.

In 2021, her son, Shawn Watts Jr., was shot and killed; and in 2020, her other son, Malik Young, was killed.

"It's certainly tragic. No family wants to lose three members like that, but we can't say that each one of those was related to the other one," Maj. Chris Patterson with the Bibb County Sheriff's Office said.

Since the investigation is still ongoing, Maj. Patterson could not comment on whether there was a suspect or if the recent shooting was gang-related. He says the Pleasant Hill area has improved over the years regarding crime.

"There are many good people that live there. When acts of violence happens like that, we do everything we can and try to solve it and make an arrest," Maj. Patterson said.

Cure Violence Macon director Dominique Johnson says crime in Pleasant Hill is a health issue. His team tries to come in, detect the problem, and interrupt it.

"When we interrupt it, we change the guns, the behaviors, and values in the community or in that area," Johnson said.

Maj. Patterson told 13WMAZ they are flooding the area with investigators to figure out who shot the 22-year-old.

Johnson says they plan to reach out to the Pleasant Hill community to do some violence prevention outreach and try to prevent another death of a loved one.
