MACON, Ga. — The search continues for three remaining escaped Bibb County inmates. It's now in its third week as the case continues to gain national attention.
Law enforcement is choosing not to comment on many of their search methods, but we wanted to show you what tools they could be using.
In August, Danilo Cavalcante escaped a jail in Chester County, PA. He 'crab walked' up a wall to escape the complex.
During the two-week search, investigators used technology to find the escapee.
"This camera will be able to search a wide area fairly quickly. It'll actually pick up heat signatures as a pilot scans the ground. It'll show up on the screens," Pennsylvania State Police Sgt. Brian Kunes said.
Heat-seeking cameras played a big role in the skies, eventually leading to Cavalcante's capture.
"We don't have the vision capability that the camera brings. We don't have the nighttime vision capability that that camera brings, just general eye," Kunes explained.
Pennsylvania State Police also used speakers on helicopters to play messages to the fugitive. They set up a perimeter they kept up for two weeks.
Investigators credit the capture to a burglar alarm going off within the perimeter.
They used the hear cameras, saw a figure hiding in the brush and moved in.
"The dog subdued him," Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivins said. "He continued to resist, but was forcibly taken into custody."
The dog is 4-year-old Yoda. Police say the K-9 unit played a big role in the capture.
In Bibb County, Sheriff David Davis credits publicity like news coverage and billboards with generating tips.
He says those tips helped lead to arrests last week of people accused of aiding the escape. He would not say whether those suspects gave them information leading to the capture of Chavis Stokes.
13WMAZ continues asking for daily updates from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office, but they're choosing to keep much of that information under wraps. They say they don't want to disrupt their search.
