WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ga. — An inmate was found dead in his cell at the Washington County jail, according to a press release from the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
Byron Mills was found dead around 7:20. a.m. Washington County Coroner E.K. May said he died of natural causes. He added that foul play was not involved.
According to the release, Mills was sent to the Washington County Sheriff's Office on June 14 and was found unresponsive in his cell Tuesday morning. Medical personnel arrived at the jail, and he was pronounced dead. May said he believes the inmate died of natural causes. They say the inmate was received from the Walton County Sheriff's Office for housing.
They say both the Eastman Office of Georgia Bureau of Investigations and Washington County Coroner’s Office were called to investigate further as is department policy guidelines.
The release says the inmate was in his own cell when he died, and they believe he died of an underlying medical condition.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigations is still looking into the case.
