Houston County teen sentenced to 50 years in prison for 2021 street party shooting

One person was shot and killed and four others were injured during the shooting.

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — A Houston County judge this week sentenced a 17-year-old who fired shots into a crowd at a street party to 50 years in prison, according to a release from the Houston County District Attorney's Office.

The shooting happened in September 2021. Prosecutors say Javontae Ridley and other teens drove up to the street party on Mauldon Court and started firing shots. One of them hit and killed Tanyla Johnson, a Henry County 17-year-old who was visiting friends in Warner Robins.

A Houston County jury convicted Ridley of five counts of aggravated assault and a weapons charge. Judge Bo Adams on Monday sentenced him to 50 years in prison and 35 years probation. He was 15 at the time of the shooting. Four other people were shot that night.
