Family of man found dead in chimney takes issue with investigation after arm is left behind at the scene

Anthony Rumplik was found dead after being reported missing for weeks. His half-brother shares the family's experience with the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

MACON, Ga. — A week after Rumplik's sister came to Macon from Ohio to conduct a search, Anthony Rumplik was found dead inside a chimney at a home in Macon. It's almost been a month since he was identified and now his half-brother, Alex Todd, is voicing concerns about the investigation after his arm was left behind at the scene.

"If anything, this is a cry for help for law enforcement because this needs to be prevented in the future," Todd said.

Todd posted a YouTube video about the investigation into Rumplik's death. He said he doesn't believe the Bibb County Sheriff's Office has been thorough.

"Even though we didn't think it was a homicide, we still searched the entire residence," Todd said. "We did everything we possibly could to determine that there was no foul play, but I didn't get that feeling."

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office confirmed they did not search the home where Rumplik died. They said that's because Rumplik was being treated as a missing person.

Todd said Rumplik had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and had an episode in November. He said he believes the sheriff's office used Rumplik's history to jump to conclusions.

"I got a very dismissive this has happened in the past. He did this again, that's what's happened…sorry," Todd said.

Todd said he wanted to get involved after his mother and sister were told to be patient.

"They were greeted by someone who advised them it's been two days and it's the holidays. When I was told that, it made my blood boil," Todd said.

Todd said he was shocked to hear a voicemail from the man who owned the home saying that important evidence was left at the scene.

"He said they forgot Anthony's arm on scene and I was like no way...that didn't happen and then I listened to the voice mail and I was like wow," Todd said.

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office said they did not remove Rumplik from the chimney, the coroner's office did. Todd said at this point all that's needed is Rumplik's remains from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and an apology.

"How everything was handled, how he was extracted, the fact there was an arm left there. Just an apology and just ownership on that," Todd said.

Todd said he believes a lot of the problems his family faced comes from the sheriff's office lacking resources. He hopes other families will speak up, ask questions and make sure their loved one's case doesn't turn cold.

The sheriff's office said they send their deepest condolences to the family. They also stated they had not received the final report on how Rumplik died.
