Elderly man killed in wrong-way crash on Baldwin County highway

Georgia State Patrol says the man who hit him was drunk at the time of the crash

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — Georgia State Patrol is investigating an accident that killed a Florida man on Georgia 29 in Baldwin County.

According to a news release from GSP, a trooper responded to a two-vehicle accident around 11 p.m. on June 16 on Georgia 29 near Georgia 49.

They say 40-year-old William Thompson, of McIntyre, was driving south in the northbound lane of the highway in his 2003 Toyota 4-Runner.

86-year-old Joseph Finan, of Tampa, was going north in his 2015 Ford F150 when Thompson hit him head-on.

Thompson was airlifted from the scene to Grady Hospital in Atlanta. Finan died at the scene.

Georgia State Patrol says Thompson was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Charges are pending.
