MERIWETHER COUNTY, Ga. — An arrest has now been made in the murder of a Newnan teen who was found shot to death on the side of a road in Meriwether County last month.
Deputies had been investigating the shooting death since Sept. 25, when Jordan Simon, 14, was found deceased in the 12000 block of Rocky Mount Road after a person passing by reported a body lying near the roadway. When deputies got there, they found the boy shot to death.
During the investigation, deputies said they uncovered evidence linking 23-year-old Thaddeus Stokes, of Senoia, to the crime. On Oct. 4, Stokes was arrested and faces multiple felonies including malice murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
“This is a senseless tragedy, and we are committed to seeing justice served for Jordan Simon and his family," said Sheriff Chuck Smith.
There is no word on that led up to Simon's death at this time. The investigation is still ongoing, but officials said there are currently no other known suspects connected with the case.
"At this stage of the investigation, we believe we have apprehended the individual responsible for this crime, but we will remain vigilant in our investigation to ensure all bases are covered," Smith said.
Stokes is currently being held at the Meriwether County Jail without bond.
